Coming into North Sound, Virgin Gorda, from the air, with yachts moored off a green island

BVI Itinerary Planner

Build your BVI bareboat route night by night

Pick your nights, your month and your charter base, then choose an anchorage for each night from the dropdowns or by tapping a pin on the map. Short on time? Tick what your crew likes and hit Captain’s Choice for a counter-clockwise week on moorings, with snorkel, hike, beach or dive stops that are actually on the way. The track stays off the land and reefs, tacks upwind like a catamaran, and every leg shows its miles and hours.

How the planner works

How does the BVI itinerary planner work out distances?

It does not draw straight lines. Every leg is routed around the islands and reefs on a fine grid, and when the next stop is upwind the track tacks the way a charter catamaran would, at about 55 degrees to the wind. The miles you see are the miles you would actually sail.

What boat speed does the planner assume?

A typical charter catamaran: about 6 knots beating upwind, 8 knots reaching and 7 knots running downwind. The wind is set from the east, a touch north of east from December to February. Your times will be slower if you motor into a chop, reef down or stop to swim.

What is Captain’s Choice?

It fills the week for you. Tick what your crew likes (snorkelling, hiking, beaches, diving, bars) and it builds a counter-clockwise route on moorings, doing the upwind work early in the week, with day stops that are actually on the way.

How many nights can I plan?

From 3 to 14 nights, from any of the main charter bases. Tick sleep aboard if your charter starts with a night at the dock.

Can I share or save my route?

Yes. Each route on our itineraries page opens in the planner with one tap, and you can send us the route with your dates and crew and we will check it against the season.

Can I navigate with this map?

No. It is a planning tool. Tracks, distances, reefs and no-go areas are approximate. Navigate with official charts, your chartplotter and your own eyes.
